There are three techniques for hair plantation.
Those techniques are:
- FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) Transplantation Technique
- DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) Pen Technique
- FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) Technique
What is the FUE hair transplantation technique?
In the FUE hair transplantation technique, hair follicles taken from a specific part of the head are transferred onto the parts where hair loss is observed. Before the process, the hair from the donor area is shortened by 1 mm.
How to implement the FUE hair transplantation technique?
- Before the implementation, the person must go under a laboratory examination, whose results determine whether to perform the operation or not.
- On the operation day, the person should wear clothes in which they feel comfortable.
- The donor area, the area on which hair will be transplanted, and the amount of graft are determined.
- The person who will go under the operation is shaved according to the operation management.
- Vascular access is opened.
- The patient’s vital findings are monitored and followed throughout the operation.
- A suitable form of anesthesia is implemented.
- The grafts are extracted with the FUE technique, with the help of a micromotor, while the patient is face down.
- The grafts extracted are both counted and kept in a special solution so as to keep them alive.
- The FUE process takes two hours, on average.
- After the process is over, the patient lies on their back.
- The incisions are opened according to the hair transplantation procedure.
- The follicles are meticulously placed into the incisions.
- While transferring the follicles, it’s crucial to manage their placement frequency to prevent them from being harmed. How the hair will look when it grows up is determined in this phase. To make the hair look natural, this process should be implemented minutely.
- When the operation is over, the donor area is applied to the dress. The area with new hair is kept open.
- Throughout the operation, the patient is given intravenous fluids and painkillers so as to make up for dehydration and possible aches.
- The patient rests until they feel better. Then, they are discharged.
What is the DHI hair transplantation technique?
DHI is also known as direct hair transplantation. It is one of the most advanced techniques. It’s implemented with a special device called an “implanter pen.” As there is no cutting involved in the DHI technique, it’s pretty practical.
Thanks to the implanter pen, the transplantation process is completed in two steps. Incision and graft operations can take place together.
The implanter pen has a quite thin and cylindrical design. It enables the hair to be placed into the needle through incisions.
How to implement the DHI hair transplantation technique?
- The hair follicles are eased with local anesthesia. The follicles collected with the implanter pen are placed in the skin of the head.
- The pin of the implanter pen is small enough to hold a hair follicle. Therefore, it does not harm the skin during the operation. It allows the transplantation to be denser.
- One of the best advantages of this technique is that it allows the transplantation to take place without making people have to wait after the graft extraction.
- The process takes between 10-12 hours, on average.
What is the FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) hair transplantation technique?
The FUT technique involves the hair follicles being extracted from the donor area in a strip of skin, and re-insertion of the follicles into the balding area.
How to implement the FUT hair transplantation technique?
- It starts with local anesthesia. A rectangular part, generally 15x2 cm, is extracted from the anesthetized area. The size of the balding area usually determines the size of the strip taken from the donor area.
- The hair follicles on the strip of skin from the donor area are extracted and then placed into petri plates.
- The part of the skin cut from the donor area is closed with surgical sutures. The disadvantage of the FUT method is permanent stitch marks on the area from where the follicles were extracted.
- The extracted follicles are inserted into the incisions in the balding part, and the process is completed.
